Face Recognition CCTV cameras will be installed at ‘A1’ Category Stations of Indian Railways

The Railway Board will install face recognition cameras at stations from the month of June. This work will be completed by year 2022. Eight cameras will be installed at ‘A1’ category stations and four at ‘A’ category stations. These cameras will be connected to face recognition software. If a suspect reaches any railway station from this, his criminal records and other information will be available in the nearest police station.

In the first phase, cameras will be installed at Ranchi, New Delhi, Mumbai, Howrah, Chennai, Bhopal, Jaipur, Patna, Amritsar, Kanpur, Prayagraj, Varanasi, Bengaluru, Ahmedabad, Chandigarh and Raipur Railway Station. Railway official said that the photo of the suspect can be uploaded from any police station in the country.

Photo and criminal records will be available in software of GRP or RPF Control Room. When someone who matches that photo will pass in front of the camera, then with the help of camera software and AI, the information will be automatically given to the control room. Apart from this, this software will also help in finding the children who run away from home or lost on station.
